Synopsis
The Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid Mini OVA is a six-episode series of standalone, short-form animated specials originally bundled as exclusive bonus content across the franchise's Japanese Blu-ray and DVD home video releases. Shifting away from the high-stakes, apocalyptic battles of the main television series, these comedic shorts hone in on the everyday lives, eccentricities, and intimate relationships of the girls quarantined on the artificial island of Mermaid.The episodes follow the dual-protagonist pairings—primarily Mirei and Mamori, alongside Rinka and Meifon—as they navigate the extreme physical and psychological quirks of the "Armed Virus." Without the constant threat of enemy combatants, the cast finds themselves trapped in a variety of classic, high-octane comedy setups, including hot spring mishaps, highly suggestive competitive games, accidental intoxications, and severe wardrobe malfunctions.Because the virus requires deep physical and emotional intimacy between a "Liberator" and an "Extar" to trigger weapon transformations, the shorts heavily emphasize the physical mechanics of their synchronization.
