Weave Extension — Pre-Alpha Update (v1.10.7)

Unified cloud login, massive performance gains, and major quality-of-life upgrades for your library.

Welcome to the latest pre-alpha rollout for the Weave Extension! Over the past few weeks, we've fundamentally rewired how accounts sync, drastically reduced the extension's memory footprint, and added several highly requested UI improvements.

Here is everything new in this release.

☁️ Account & Sync Overhaul

We've completely rebuilt the sign-in flow to ensure a seamless experience across all your devices, whether you're online or offline.

  • Unified Cloud-First Login: The extension now authenticates directly with the cloud rather than relying on a local-first account bridge. Your local account now acts purely as an offline mirror. If you lose connection, everything falls back to offline mode exactly as before — but when you're online, syncing is instant.
  • Seamless Multi-Device Setup: Previously, installing the extension on a new device forced you to go through the "Create Account" flow again to link it up. Now, simply signing in on a fresh install pulls your display name, @handle, role, level, and XP straight from the server, getting you up and running immediately.
  • Email Registration Required: To ensure every account can securely sync across the web platform and the extension, an email address is now required during account creation. This prevents accounts from getting permanently stuck in "local-only" mode.

⚡ Performance & Efficiency

This update significantly reduces how much memory and processing power the extension uses while you browse.

  • On-Demand Drawer Loading: The in-page tracking drawer used to load its underlying code on every supported site you visited, even if you had the drawer turned off. It is now loaded on-demand. If your settings have it disabled, it uses zero resources until you explicitly need it.
  • Ultra-Lightweight Video Tracking: We've optimized how the extension detects when a video starts playing. Instead of injecting heavy tracking scripts into every single ad, embed, or player frame on a page, child frames now receive a microscopic probe that simply signals the main tracker when a video begins.
  • Optimized Background Maintenance: The extension's routine cleanup tasks (like scanning for duplicate entries) used to run multiple times whenever you opened the popup. These scans have been streamlined to run only when you actually add a new title, or on a much lighter 5-minute background interval. You get the same exact library accuracy with zero popup lag.

🎨 UI & Quality of Life Features

The "Up Next" Carousel & CoverFlow

  • Scroll & Collapse: The "Up Next" section no longer blocks your view! It now scrolls naturally with the rest of your library grid. We also added a collapse chevron — click it to shrink the section down to just the header bar when you want it out of the way.
  • CoverFlow Returns: The 3D-arc recommendation carousel is back in the full library. It now displays your own "planned" entries for your active tab (Watch or Read), ranked by your rating and recently added.

Library & Quick Add Improvements

  • Smarter Tagging & Aliases: Some sites use a slash (/) to separate alternate titles. Pasting a string with slashes into the Aliases or Tags fields will now automatically split them into separate entries.
  • New Sub-Genres: We've added Magic, Donjini, and Tongren Zhi to the sub-genre lists for better tracking of Manhwa and Manhua.
  • Clickable Native Languages: Native Language selection in the full library is now fully clickable (JPN / ZH-CH / KOR / ENG / MULT / OTHER), matching the Quick Add wizard. Selecting KOR or ZH-CH still automatically applies the appropriate format tags.
  • Cover Fetch Feedback: If the Quick Add wizard can't automatically find a cover image for a title, it will now display a helpful "Not found" message rather than failing silently.
  • Layout Tweaks: The Synopsis box in Quick Add is now resizable, the release year field has been moved to a more logical spot on the Status & Progress page, and the in-page drawer now features sleek, dark-themed scrollbars to match the rest of the extension.

Privacy & Permissions

  • Stricter Permissions: We've removed unused browser scripting permissions to ensure the extension only requests the exact access it needs to function.
